FrankenSandy passed over the Finger Lakes yesterday, bringing with her a run on the stores but, AFAIK, no real damage in our immediate area.
On the other hand, I’ve been sick since Friday, so I’m mostly a lump. A dry lump, though.

poor dry lump, hoping you feel better soon
Thank you!
A warm dry lump is a much nicer thing to be than a cold wet lump. I wish you a speedy recovery!
Thank you! (And I agree!)
A warm, dry lump with power even! The NJ Governor telling off Atlantic City made the news over here.
The NJ Governor is pretty good at telling people off. What did he do this time?
(I take it Atlantic City is on a barrier island?) As I recall, that they were warned to evacuate (apparently Atalntic City mayor told people to go to evacuation centres IN Atlantic City) also that no first responders would try to get to them or anyone else who’d stayed on the barrier islands before daybreak. (Not safe.)
/looks at map/ Hunh, it is. Yeah. Last year, just before Hurricane Irene – http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2011/08/26/new-jersey-governor-chris-christie-urges-hurricane-irene-evacuations-get-the-hell-off-the-beach/ – this. It was awesome.
What I saw last night was more vehement – along the lines of “it’s too late you idiots, you’re on your own till daybreak.”
Yeah. I am not surprised.
We had some people like that in the last big cyclone that hit northern Queensland – they were going to ride it out in their holiday house then when it hit they realised that was a bad idea & called for help to evacuate – too late for anyone to get to them.
*nods* yeah. Christie is just… brasher than most elected officials
It’s good to hear that you’re warm and dry. I hope you’ll feel better and return to a non-lump state soon.
Thanks!
