MĂ©lanie was doing her best – with only moderate success – to not look too nervous or act too worried as Jasper led her into the next room.
The dining room was quite nice, beautiful in a way that looked like it probably belonged to the rest of the house, with well-polished furniture and not a speck of dust anywhere in sight. Â Two chairs pushed out from the table as they walked by, and the china cabinetâs doors popped open.
âOh!â Â MĂ©lanie couldnât help a little gasp. Â âThatâs-â she took the hint and, as soon as Jasper sat down, did the same herself. Continue reading

Edally Story 3 – Fingers Itch
Chapter 12-18, Book One: Tesdes (and Kekdela)
âYou! Â You, come here, would you? Â Come here.â
The girl grabbing Tesdesâ arm was dressed in such elaborately tailored clothes that he was surprised that she could move. Â Her overvest was to her knees on one side and above her hip on the other, and closed with what had to be fifty teeny pearl buttons – and that was just one layer.
She was going to find the uniform she was carrying very boring, he thought.
That was secondary. Â She was grabbing. Grabbing! Â His arm. Â Â He looked at her hand, looked at his arm, looked back at her hand.
She dropped his arm and shook her head. Â âPeople! All right, yes, we donât technically know each other, but youâre Tesdes, right?â Continue reading

He was actually interested in her art, which she probably should have expected, and knew things to ask about technique and had interest in both her process and her decisions, which was a pleasant surprise. Â Â It took her a while to pry them both away from talking about her art, and when she did, she found herself almost quoting that old saw âWell, enough about me, what do you think of me?â
âSo, why do you like it? Â My art?â she asked, feeling a little shy. Â âI mean, I donât think it was my pretty face that got you hiking till your feet bled, was it?â Continue reading
The Hidden Mall 29: Say What?đŹ
First:Â The Hidden Mall â a beginning of something
Previous:Â Clean
âExcuse me?â Â Abby took a step backwards, reaching for her friends. Â âPackaging? I donât want to be wrapped up any further than I already am, thank you.â
âYou will need face masks. Â Packaging will now commence.â
A whirr and a soft creaking noise came from the bin where their bags had been. Â A few more sounds commenced – ripping, some shaking, and something that sounded like sucking air through a straw.
Then three identical white bags popped out. Â They looked clean, they looked like they had everything in them, and they looked more comfortable than the back packs theyâd had.
Each of them took one.  The bot, now a sphere again, whirred at them one more time.  âPlease take one face mask each and install on face.  Please take one face mask eachâŠâ
A tray popped out of the sphereâs side. Â They took one face mask each and, after a moment, figured out how to put them on. Â They were surprisingly comfortable, and now the three of them were nearly anonymous.
âThis is weird.â Â Liv-probably-1âs voice came out clearer than it ought to have, but also somehow anonymized. Â âLike, we got all our individuality pulled away.â
âOn the plus side,â the other Liv pointed out, âweâre clean. Â Now if only weâd been fed.â
âThe food depot is out this door and to the left. Â Please follow the blue line.â The bot was far too helpful. Â âYou have been cleaned. Â You may now pursue food.â
âDo we have to chase it?â Liv-probably-2 muttered. Â âBecause Iâm not all that hungry, but I might still run something down.â
âPlease follow the blue line towards food,â the bot repeated. Â
âFollowing,â Abby agreed. Â She took both Livâs hands. If she lost them here, she was never going to be able to pick them out of a crowd.
One of the Lizs glanced sidelong at her. âThis is getting to be a habit.â Continue reading

The reply to their reply took many[brownish, with suggestions of green] days, so long that Lior (red-phasing-to-blue/greenish tips gone yellow) believed they would hear nothing. Â Had their reply been too bland? Not bland enough? How were they to know, when the probe allowed for nothing like color in its sending?
When it returned, Lior was pleased(Green, so green) to find they had included video. But their faces⊠spoke only of tired/sorrow?
These were not people Lior wished to communicate with.
