Autumn 2017 Giraffe (Zebra) Call: Autumn, Autumn (Roundtree)*, Fall, and Falling

It’s time for a Zebra Call, which is a special black-and-white and stripey version of a Giraffe Call.

🦒🦓

The theme for the month is Autumn, Autumn (Roundtree)*, Fall, and Falling

There’s a longer post about what this call is for [here]. The short version is: We’re redoing our bathroom and the cabinets I really, really want cost $700 more than our budget.

If you’re interested in Giraffe Calls in general, check out the Giraffe Call: Call tag [here].

Leave a prompt (or several), get a short fic written.

Tip and get TWO fics written and 100 words/$1.50 tipped

Join my Patreon and get TWO fics written.

My goal is $500 between new Patreon Patrons and tips (Counting each $1 of Patreon-age as $3)

For every $50 in tips, I will choose a prompter at random and write another story to their prompts (so leave lots of prompts!)

For every multiple of 5 Patreon Patrons we reach (30, 35, 40…) I will do the same.  Continue reading

Giraffe Call Round Two: Open!

Welcome to my summer giraffe Call!

The theme today is “Green Thumbs”

Please feel free to leave as many prompts as come to your mind!

You may prompt whether or not you prompted in round one.

I will write a short flash fiction or the beginning of a story (approx 150-300 words) for the first twelve prompters who post their prompts within the next 48 hours.

I will start posting stories around 8:30 a.m. Eastern time and continue until I run out of prompters/until 9:30 p.m., and then pick up again tomorrow morning with whatever’s left.

I’ll write a second (or more) story for you if:

  • You tip or pledge to my patreon
  • You are a new prompter – don’t forget to tell me!
  • Your signal boost brings in a new prompter

If you qualify for a second-plus story, I will also waive the twelve-prompter limit and the 48-hour limit for you.

Please remember to tell me if you are a new prompter, AND what/who brought you to this Giraffe Call!
If your Paypal or Patreon account name does not match your posting/prompting account name, please remember to leave a note letting me know you tipped/pledged.

Any tip you leave will buy you more words, at my reduced Giraffe Call rate of $5/300 words.

In Addition, if I receive $25 in tips, $10 in new Pledges, or 10 new followers between LiveJournal and Dreamwidth – or a combination thereof – I will run the Giraffe Call for a third day, with a third theme, and a third chance to prompt! The prompt options for tomorrow are currently tied at “Impossible Ideas” and “Summer ritual celebrations.”

Summer 2016 Giraffe Call

Welcome to my summer giraffe Call!

The theme today is “When the best answer is FIRE”

Please feel free to leave as many prompts as come to your mind!

The Prompt Call is now closed to everyone except: tippers, new Patreons, people who have never
prompted in a Giraffe Call of mine before, and people whose signal boost brought me a new person. However, if we cross a combined new friend/new Patron/tip threshold by 9 p.m. 6/27, there will be a second day of prompt-calling with a new theme!

I will write a short flash fiction or the beginning of a story (approx 150-300 words) for the first twelve prompters who post their prompts within the next 24 hours.

I will start posting stories around 7:30 a.m. Eastern time and continue until I run out of prompters/until 9:30 p.m., and then pick up again tomorrow morning with whatever’s left.

Linguistic Tricks, a story for the Giraffe Call

This is a sibling piece with N is for Nereid, O is for Octopi, and P is for Poinsettias, and follows after R is for Rituals.

It is set in the Things Unspoken ‘verse, and was written to [personal profile] chanter_greenie‘s prompt here to the current Giraffe Call.

Eliška Konvalinka had been in Scheffenon for less than a month, and already she found herself learning a new language.

One of the key skills looked for in potential Informers – next to a keen eye for detail and a flawless memory – was a good ear for languages and dialects. Eliška’s primary linguistic family was the West Torvaldic, of which Cornesc, the language spoken in Scheffenon, was a key example. That was one of the reasons the Informers had placed her here. In three days, she was speaking Cornesc, if not like a native, then like a long-time visitor.

And it was once that she had Cornesc firmly settled in her mind and on her tongue that Eliška began to hear another language.

A large portion of the Informers’ job was to mingle, to shop and to listen. Informers did not have servants run errands for them, although sometimes they dressed in the garb of the Informers’ Embassy to run those errands. Informers listened, and they learned.

And what Eliška was listening to was a small but notable minority of Scheffenon who were speaking in an utterly different language. Not a different dialect – this language was not even of the same family as Cornesc. The r’s were rolled in a way that only the far-Western languages did, and the s’s were soft and susserated, the consonants languid.

It took Eliška a week to place the speakers – not all of the speakers, but the ones who spoke it the most languidly, with the smoothest trilled r’s. The men wore elaborate head-scarves, while the women went bare-headed, their hair parted three times. The women wore small sheathed knives on necklaces; the man wore very loose pants. And they all averted their eyes from the mermaid fountains and octopus murals that were splashed all over Scheffenon.

Eliška was fascinated. She made notes in her logs; she added a paragraph to the teaching poem of Scheffenon. And she began to listen in earnest to this new language, so strange in the harsh-consonants lands of the West Torvaldic linguistic family.

If you want more, Eliška’s story has plenty more coming! Drop a tip in the tip pack below.

Giraffe Call Open: “Survival”

Giraffe Call Open!!

The call will be open for *one week* from time of posting, and the theme is Survival.

Leave me your prompts about surviving – emotional survival, physical survival, survivalists, human-vs-nature, whatever you want. Any setting of mine or no setting at all. It just has to involve “survival.”

Leave a prompt, and I will write a micro/flash-fic. Leave as many prompts as you want; I will answer at least one for each person (although I may use more than one prompt in a fic).

I almost forgot! For every NEW DONOR or NEW PROMPTER (please tell me when donating/prompting if you are new!), I will write one SETTING PIECE (i.e., Demifiction, a piece of historical fact, you name it) for a poll-chosen setting/question.

Current count: 1 new prompter

Want more words, or just really like something you read? Drop some money in the tip pack!

Edited to add: OR add paid time to my DW account. Out of time again!

For every $1 you donate, I will write 75-100 words on the Giraffe story of your choice. Donate more than $1, and I’ll write a second fic to one of your prompts.

And the more money donated, the more I’ll write!

At $25, T. & I get take-out. Thai, I think, though it may be Indian.

at $40, I will commission a piece of character art from a crowdfunded artist

At $50, I will write an extra fic for everyone.

At $75, three prompters chosen at random will get an extra 500-word story written to their prompt

At $100, I’ll write a 1500-word story based on the input of everyone who prompted for this call.

At $125, I’ll add three more 500-word stories, chosen at random from all prompters.

Have fun! Prompt!

Dungeon-and-Cave #Promptcall open for three more days!

Did you know I had a prompt call open? (Here: http://aldersprig.dreamwidth.org/819607.html).

The theme is “submissive men, chained men, captive men,” and funds earned will go towards making my writing cave a comfy place for writing this winter.

We got to the “take-out” level quickly this month, so last night, T. and I had Chinese take-out. (Sesame chicken, shrimp fried rice, fried dumplings, & crab Rangoon) (turns out the kitten approves of shrimp fried rice!)

We’ve also reached the $40 art-from-a-crowdfunded-artist level (And I’ve just commissioned Djinni to do a picture of the Samurai Catboy from the last giraffe call). I’ll have to see if the choice is as easy this time as it was last time; if there’s no clear favorite, I’ll put up a poll when the Call is closed.

And we’re $2 from everyone-gets-a-second-story!

So go prompt! Prompts don’t have to be kinky and fics won’t be sexually explicit unless you ask for it.

Then, if you like what you read, you can always tip for more story, at the discounted rate of $1/100 words.

~

Cave & Dungeon #Promptcall: dominant women, submissive men

This prompt call is all about Lyn comfort writing. *cough*

I want to write a bunch of fun, self-indulgent pieces, and I’m raising money to make my “cave,” the room where I write, prettier and more comfortable to write in. So: caves and dungeons.

I noticed, looking at pretty pictures on Deviantart the other day, that there were lots of pictures of collared women, submissive women – and very few of collared, submissive men. So this prompt call is all about captured men, enslaved men, kidnapped men, submissive men, trapped men.

(Note: I will default to non-sexual-explicit content unless you ask for explicit stuff, to avoid discomfort all around. There will, otoh, be lots of slavery and tying up and kink, probably).

Leave a prompt, and I will write a micro/flash-fic. Leave as many prompts as you want; I will try answer at least one for each person (although I may use more than one prompt in a fic) and I WILL write at least to the first 10 people to prompt.

Want more words, or just really like something you read? Drop some money in the tip jar!
(The cuffs are the tip jar)

For every $1 you donate, I will write 75-100 words on the Giraffe story of your choice. Donate more than $1, and I’ll write a second fic to your prompts.

And the more money donated, the more I’ll write!

At $25, T. & I get take-out. Thai, I think, though it may be Indian. Reached!

at $40, I will commission a piece of character art from a crowdfunded artist Reached!

At $50, I will write an extra fic for everyone. One prompter chosen at random will get an extra 500-word story. Reached!

At $75, three prompters chosen at random will get an extra 500-word story written to their prompt Reached!

At $100, three more prompters chosen at random will get an extra 500-word story.

At $120, I get a rug for my cave!

Have fun! Prompt!

Giraffe Call Landing Page

What is a Giraffe Call?
Once a month, on the second Saturday after the first Tuesday of the month, Updated: once in a while, about 1-2 times/year, I open up a post calling for prompts on a monthly theme.

Why is it a “Giraffe Call?”
I was saving up for some pretty awesome giraffe-print carpet for the bedroom of Our New House. 🙂 Thus Giraffe. (I have a lot more renovations to go after the carpet! Currently up is my attic.)

What do you do on a Giraffe Call?
I will write at least one microfic (around 150-400 words) for everyone who prompts.

I not only accept but welcome and encourage prompts without donation; the more prompts, the better! It makes a fuller, more exciting Call!

But Wait, There’s More
Donation incentives vary by month, but the short version is: as the Call reaches total-dollars-donated levels, the entire call gets more things – a longer short story, writing to more prompts by everyone, or to all the prompts, a podcast of a story, even, if I reach my top goal for the call, an e-book.

In addition, there are perks for new donors, new commenters/prompters, and linking back to the call. Check each individual call for their perks.

What can I prompt?
Anything at all, as long as it’s somehow related to the theme.  However, I do not write fanfiction for prompt calls.

If you want to prompt something related to one of my extant settings, that’s cool; if you want to prompt something completely new, that’s also cool. Photo prompts, art prompts, are awesome; I’ll take auditory prompts too, though I’ve never tried writing to those.

If I find I really can’t work with your prompt (I have trouble with zombies, for instance), I’ll ask you to prompt again.

Let’s Have a Giraffe Call: Animalia (#promptcall)

Giraffe Call Closed!

You can always get more words by donating, however.

The call will be open for *one week* from time of posting, and the theme is Animalia.

What’s this theme include? Centaurs and fauns, bull-boys and fox-girls, talking cats and telepathic pink horses. It includes transfurry things and sentient animal things, moddies and Changes and animal-shaped aliens. In short, if it’s somehow an animal/person, it counts.

Leave a prompt, and I will write a micro/flash-fic. Leave as many prompts as you want; I will answer at least one for each person (although I may use more than one prompt in a fic).

Bonus points and an extra 50 words/extra microfic if you prompt in the style of the Animalia book) (it’s a really good book) OR if you somehow manage to come up with an animalia prompt for this month’s theme setting, Reiassan.

Animalia sample pages here, here, here, here, and here

Want more words, or just really like something you read? Drop some money in the tip jar!

And the more money donated, the more I’ll write!

May/June Giraffe Call: Micro Prompts

Doing something different this time!

I’m going to post a series of themes, to which I’ll take 3-5 prompts; I’ll write a story – a drabble, really, 100-250 words – to each prompter, and then post a new prompt, for five-or-more prompts.

The current prompt is here – Variants
Closed Prompts:
Mushrooms
Circles
Packages

As always, there are tip incentives:

* If I get to $25 in tips, I get take-out (mmm take-out)

* If I get to $50 in tips, I will either:
– write to a second prompt for each tipper
or
– let each tipper who has not left more than one prompt suggest a new theme for prompts

* If we get to $75 in tips, I will write two extra 500-word continuations – chosen by prompters picked by random number generator.

* At $120, everyone who donated will get an additional (3rd) microfic written to their prompts.

And of course, I will write 100 words of continuation to a story of your choice for every $1 you donate.
