Plan for day: 20-10-20s, of housework-rest-writing

So far today:
20 kitchen, 10 play, 20 writing, lunch, drugstore for battery for thermometer, REALLY upset cat for a couple minutes, migraine+sinus headache=nap.
Then hanging out with spouse and cats for twenty minutes, which at least was totally worth it. 🙂

Weekend!

This weekend, I:

Went to the NY State Faire with Rion, where we ate red velvet funnel cake, looked at bunnies, cows, and other creatures, and walked, a lot. It was a blast!

(We also took Addergoole characters there, because that’s what happens).

Then we went to the vampire LARP (Live-action rp game) we play in, where our fictional characters broke 25 prisoners out of super-max with only social challenges and a bit of mind control. Then we stormed a castle (Rion’s character and others stormed the castle. Mine sat on a bluff a mile away and threw social challenges).

SUNDAY

I sanded the walls and the woodwork in the foyer, primed it (with help from T)… canned peaches (had an exploding can), helped T put up some bracing in our shedroof behind the garage, cleaned up the back wall of the utility room, filled the holes, and sanded that so that T. could prime it.

Then I fell over.

MONDAY

I was going to go into work for a couple hours but the rain was so intense at 6:30, I decided to go back to bed instead.

My parents had been going to visit to help paint the foyer, but with the rain and the humidity, I ended up suggesting they stay home, since painting wasn’t going to happen. I sanded some more, played with the trim, chopped up wood for the winter, and… I’m not sure. Monday is a bit of a blur.

And now back to work!

Writing and bus rides

I, at 37 years old, went to NYC for the first time in my life. It was awesome.

I met @Theladyisugly there, and we spent the day at the Met, and it was awesome.

And then I rode back.

On the bus, I wrote 3-3/4 of the stories from my pre-Call call. I’ll get them transcribed and posted (and finished) over the next four, five days.

(I had a book, or I probably would have written more, but I spent most of the way back just sleeping.)

The true call will open up next Saturday, so have no fear, if I didn’t get to your prompt, I’ll get to it then.

… NYC was awesome. The Met was awesome. Seeing B IRL for the first time was awesome.

Long Weekend of Dooooom (or, at least, a lot of fun)

Wow. Weekend took me so long to recover from, it’s Wednesday before I’m posting about it. 🙂

Saturday, Rion & I went to visit [personal profile] inventrix, who lives in Colorado but was in NY for the holiday. That was loads of fun – and only the second time I’ve seen Trix in person. (Internet people are real; they’re just a little realer when you’re buying used books with them!)

Sunday was All The Gardening. Well, raking. First raking the lawn, then raking and clearing a patch of dirt for the melons/squash we plan on planting. Then more raking, I think. I’m not actually sure where Sunday evening went.

Monday, Ri and T. and I hit three wineries on the top west of Seneca Lake, then spent a couple hours at the outlet mall, then hit 2/5 wineries (“Three Brothers” is three wineries and a brewery in one) and a cafe before driving home. Then we stacked firewood until dark.

We have a lot of firewood. 🙂

That was my weekend. It looks a lot shorter in text form, but, mainly, it was a lot of fun.

Weekend Fun!

This weekend, my friend [personal profile] eseme came to visit!!

We/I took her to
3 wineries
2 farmstands
1 Indian restaurant
2 craft stores
1 Wegman’s
and 2 closed Hydroponics stores.

She taught me a little crochet, enough to finish the baby hats for my cousin’s new triplets, met the kittens, tried out my beginnings of a guest room, and ate of the good food we cooked her. All in all, it was an awesome weekend.

Now all I need is some sleep 🙂

Now THAT is how a weekend should be

Weekends like this past one remind me what I love (and hate) about living down here.

Saturday was a trip to Horseheads to get T. fitted for a tux for an upcoming wedding we’re both in (Horseheads is the closest town with a Men’s Warehouse; it’s about an hour away). This involved driving through some of the most depressed and depressing parts of Southern Tier, NY, but it also involved random sights like this, a stop at a winery above Watkin’s Glen, a stop at a really nice restaurant, and a really nice drive with my spouse-person. I’ll chalk it up as a win: I’m still full from those ribs!

Sunday we were still feeling like driving, so we headed out to Liedenfrost Winery, where we stopped last weekend, got a little more wine, stopped at Atwater Vineyards for a tasting (Really, really, really good wine!) and then took a hike in the Finger Lakes National Forest.

We started discussing the history of the Reiassani people while we were walking & driving, so I’ll have some worldbuilding notes and maybe an exodus map later this week.

Food and Wine

I love my dinner train of thought looking at cupboard: mm, not in the mood for matzo ball soup. Want Jambalaya. Don’t have a Jambalaya mix. Maybe Dal palak with the chicken in the fridge? That sounds tasty.

We ended up making naan with a side of chicken, sausage, and mirepoix.

Today was a do-it-yourself wine tour. 🙂

Penguin Bay Winery was having a buy-two-get-one on their very nice Percussion wine, so we headed there.

I’ve wanted Red Newt’s Hellbender Soiree port since we stopped there this autumn (there was a line), so we stopped there on the way to get a bottle of that.

After Red Newt and Penguin Bay, I turned into the first winery that looked really interesting, which turned out to be Leidenfrost Estates. We tasted … well, most of their wine list, and ended up buying a Log Cabin White, which is a nice versatile semi-sweet wine, and their dessert wine Encore. (their Gewurztraminer was also very nice).

Then… we stopped at Finger Lakes Distilling, and split a rather more high-octane tasting. Nom. Delicious. We’re going to have to go back and buy more.

All in all, a nice way to get out of the house for a few hours. 🙂

Weekend Glory and La-De-Da

When I was working at the department store Bon*Ton in the housewares department, I had a co-worker who was concerned about the health risks in… pretty much everything we sold, but for this story, specifically the pans, non-stick, this, that…

So I asked her, well, why not All-Clad?

They’re a bit expensive, aren’t they?

Well, we just buy them scratch-and-dent, and we love the way they work.

And she said, I shit you not, “Well, La-dee-dah, you and your All-Clad.”

This has become an in-joke for us, now, one of the few in our house that doesn’t involve the Simpsons (“that video game with the great digital eyelash rendering,” for example).

So, this weekend, in the middle of a very wonderful trip with E.Mc and Kris, in which we did Christmas (it’s still January, that’s not late), they gifted us (Husband-person, really) with an All-Clad saucepan. La-dee-dah, us and our great weekend!

I love my friends. It’s good to be me.
